Ross Turrini
Vice President of Procurement US
Procurement is vital to the overall business; we’ve got some big, financial challenges ahead of the company and we’re very focused on efficiencies. We have to be integrated within the lines of business; we have to understand their business plans; we have to have collaborative relationships with them and understand their needs. We also have to drive to provide cost-savings and efficiencies for them.
The current transformation project is really driven by the needs of the company for us to evolve, change and grow. Procurement was seen as an area that needed to transform – to perform better – and that was going to be vital to the business going forward.
The business is going to gain a lot of things. It’s going to get a more integrated, co-operative, collaborative relationship with Global Procurement. It’s going to have better market data and better strategic supplier relationship management. It’s also going to have a more efficient procurement organisation that’s going to be able to provide better services, as well as drive cost-savings for the lines of business.
The benefit of being part of a global team is that you get exposed to a whole new group of people and different aspects of the business. You get to interact with other lines of business – both internationally and within a specific country – and you get a much broader perspective on what it takes to run a business internationally. It’s a company that’s truly focused on inclusion and diversity – we want to reflect the communities that we serve. It’s got a great working environment – people are friendly and they’re willing to help. It’s a very collaborative environment and it’s a very fun place to work.
Working for National Grid has developed my career in many ways. One, it’s truly an environment where you’re going to get opportunities based on how you perform and how you look at developing yourself. So I’ve been provided with some great opportunities to develop from an entry-level position in management all the way up to Vice President of US Procurement. That’s not to say that there’s not a lot of hard work that goes along with that! But if you’re willing to work hard and you’re willing to come in, focus, integrate, be collaborative and provide leadership to the company, then there’ll be great opportunities for you here.
